Chartwell offers a wide spectrum of seniors housing choices from independent retirement residences with the option of assisted living services to long term care. They have implemented the Java Music Club in over 180 retirement and nursing homes across Canada.
“Our program managers are really excited.” says Laura Forsyth, Director of Life Enrichment for the Chartwell Canadian Retirement Communities. “Chartwell chose the Java Music Club as a signature program, as it offers a way to help residents build close relationships and become actively engaged in seeking out and supporting those that are lonely or isolated.”
After conducting a pilot of the Java Music Club program in three British Columbia retirement communities in the fall of 2013, Chartwell held training workshops in western Canada and then eastern Canada for their program staff in early 2014. The implementation of the program is now complete in English Canada. The French translation is done and roll out is underway in Quebec.
The feedback from Chartwell staff is fantastic:
“All I can say is AMAZING!!!! It is one of the best programs I have ever done in my life!!!!! The residents enjoyed it and are so excited to do it again!”
“I’m very happy with this program as it has attracted residents that don’t participate as often as others. My residents are each like an onion – each week we are pulling a layer off and they are sharing more. We’ve had good laughs and good cry’s as well as heated discussions all the while respecting each person’s opinions.”
And from residents:
“This is better than seeing a psychologist” – Doreen S.
” I love this program! I have met some amazing people and have new friendships I wouldn’t have otherwise had.” – Dorothy C.
” I find peace at this program. I can share my most troubling stories and everyone loves and respects me” – Bruni V.
