We are an independent living community for seniors (affordable housing with HUD and tax credit apartments). I knew the Java Music Club program had been successful in assisted living and nursing care facilities but wasn’t sure how well it would work in independent living.
It didn’t take long to find out. Our residents look forward to attending each week. We have between 10 and 12 people attending each time. They are inviting their friends and telling them about the program.
One resident, Eloise, tells everyone “I look forward to the Java Music Club each Monday morning. It’s the perfect start to my week!” She has lived here a little more than a year. Another resident who has lived here for almost 3 years told me that this was the best program that I’ve ever started at Seven Oaks. He loves the NewCurrents program from Knowledge Unlimited that we have each week but thinks Java is even better.
As the Life Enrichment Director I appreciate the easy to use format. Setup is easy and there’s no prep work. All participants feel like they are getting to know each other better. I get a chance to learn more about each person also. They love singing the songs and even like trying to sing the songs they haven’t heard before.
