Village by the Station is a unique community offering seniors multiple levels of support and the opportunity to age in place. The care component of the dementia care program is based more on a social rather than a medical model of care. Personal autonomy and competencies are emphasized. Residents can participate in daily activities associated with a home-like environment.

Village by the Station successfully implemented the Java Music Club in 2012 and recently received training for the new enhanced Java Mentorship Program.

“The Java Music Club has been a great experience! One of my favorite programs. It has been a great way to connect with residents and I have noticed a connection between them as well. I hear them telling others about it and they always tell me they are looking forward to it.”

“Enlightening, rewarding! And residents feel it is a very purposeful program.”

“The Java Music Club is good for me! Gives me a chance to participate in something,…makes me think, association with other members of the group, making additional friends in the village.”

“I feel supported and comfortable and others seem understanding toward my emotions at times. When the facilitator also brings their life to share with the group, it is very much appreciated. It’s a very important part of the whole process—brings togetherness to the group and may encourage others to come forth and participate.”
